Tee It Up at Charleston Place

April 16, 2013
By: Five Star Alliance

Charleston PlaceCharleston, SC is a golfer's paradise.  According to Golf Magazine, Charleston is home to two of the "100 Greatest Golf Courses in the World." There are more  than 20 courses in the Charleston area to choose from; from the Rivertowne Country Club, which offers 13 holes along the Wando River and Horlbeck Creek to Charleston National, an 18 hole championship course designed by the renowned golf course architect Rees Jones,  to the Links at Stono Ferry, which  is a championship par 72 golf course located along the Intracoastal Waterway. Many golf architects have proclaimed their Charleston area courses as some of their best, including Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, Pete Dye, Gary Player, Tom Fazio and Rees Jones.

Unlike some other golf destinations, Charleston is generally not crowded with golfers, which  results in a greater array of  tee times and golfers who can take their time hitting the links.  Morevoer, it's always a good time of year to play golf in the Charleston area, where average high temperatures range from 57°F to 89°F. The 94th PGA Championship was one of many tournaments played in Charleston, so you know the golfing is good.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Tie the Knot Near Charleston

September 10, 2012
By: Oksana Balytsky

Rumor has it that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds got hitched this past weekend at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. This plantation has been open to the public since 1956, and it’s one of America’s oldest working, living plantations. The reception took place in a charming white tent, and Florence Wench, of Florence and the Machine, performed three songs live. Reynolds, previously married to Scarlet Johansen for 2 years, went back on the market when the couple divorced in 2010. We wish them the very best in their marriage and look forward to viewing a few wedding photos! If you’d like to visit this charming plantation for yourself for a wedding or simply a tour, make a reservation at a luxury hotel in Charleston which is just outside the plantation.

In Charleston, A Place Like Home

June 22, 2012
By: Christopher Roney

Undoubtedly one of our most popular resorts in the Charleston area is none other than Charleston Place, a 17th century residence complete with open-arm staircase and crystal chandelier that make you feel as if you've stepped off the street into a high society ball. Outside the threshold of that entrance is Charleston's historic downtown, which is filled with classic southern homes with more historical significance than Lord Wellington. Golf is easy to find, with over 20 courses, ranging from the Arnold Palmer signature course at Rivertown to the Kiawah and Wild Dunes. Dine at the Charleston Grill, a recipient of both a Forbes four-star rating and the AAA Four Diamond Award, so you know you're getting possibly the best food in the entire state. If you like things a little more casual, the Palmetto Cafe should be your choice for breakfast and lunch as its open-air design takes advantage of a landscaped courtyard for a calming ambiance that only makes the food taste all the more delicious.

Special rates abound at Charleston Place. To see exactly what is available, simply enter your dates of travel here. Currently rates are available with a range of amenities, including a $75 spa, restaurant, or bar credit, so you can enjoy everything Charleston Place has to offer. Select the special Five Star Alliance rate for wine and breakfast, and for stays until August 23rd, you'll also get a free upgrade the next room category! Before booking, see here for more details. This summer is the perfect time to explore one of the South's most storied cities, and what better place to stay than its historic heart and soul, Charleston Place.

The Golf Coast: Kiawah Island's Golf Courses Are as Nice as Their Resorts

February 21, 2012
By: Christopher Roney

Springtime is on the offensive on the East Coast, and that means one thing: Time to break out the clubs.  Golfing weather is looking like it's here to stay in South Carolina, and that means the closely cropped greens and devilish sand traps are calling your ball in equal measure, like the angel and devil of so many cartoons.  It's time to break out your woods and irons for the spring season and put your other sets away.  Maybe you were playing Settlers of Catan? I don't know. This whole analogy thing is harder than a brick wall. No, no, a diamond. Wait, maybe the Ko'olau Golf Club in Oahu.  There we go; now it's topical.  Anyway, I can't think of a better place to enjoy the newly found weather than on five championship courses of the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

Home of the 1991 Ryder Cup and 1997 and 2003 World Cups of Golf, you're getting a top class playing experience in one of the most breathtaking regions on the eastern seaboard.  And between games, you can relax along ten miles of romantic beaches or head out in search of the other sorts of eagles, who have nested in the region for centuries.  This Conde Nast Award winner even has three pool complexes and a child program available to keep the tiny tots out from underfoot while you're swinging a large metal rod around.  The Kiawah Island Golf Resort and accompanying Sanctuary at Kiawah Island are natural, beautiful, and definitely in season, so it might be worth planning a trip this spring.
