December 24, 2012
By: K. Clare Johnson

In the final days of 2012, Five Star Alliance is counting down the Top 15 Luxury Hotels and Resort Destinations Worldwide, as decided by you, our luxury travelers! Be sure to check in with us daily to keep up with our countdown and explore a few of the absolute best and most luxurious hotels in the world for your future travels!

As of today, Five Star Alliance features 10 luxury hotels in Bora Bora. Bora Bora is a tropical island in French Polynesia, located in the middle of the Pacific ocean halfway between Australia and the USA. Bora Bora is known as "The Romantic Island." It's a a small island set in a turquoise lagoon that is surrounded by a string of motus (small islands).

What Makes Our Guests Love Bora Bora?

-Exclusivity. There are more hotel rooms in a typical Las Vegas hotel than on all 118 islands of French Polynesia. If you really want to get away from it all, Bora Bora is the answer.

-There are no poisonous snakes or insects in French Polynesia.

-Look at the pictures.  Pristine white sand beaches, clear blue lagoons, tropical vegetation over dramatic volcanic peaks and glamorous resorts. Need we say more?

Places to Stay?

-What could be more romantic than Valentine's Day in Bora Bora? As of this writing, nightly rates range from $523 at Intercontinental Le Moana Bora Bora to $744 at Le Meridien Bora Bora to $1071 at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora.

Did You Know?

-The recent Vince Vaughn film "Couples Retreat" was filmed at St. Regis Resort Bora Bora (pictured).

The Park Hyatt Sydney Readies for Reopening

December 9, 2011
By: Dave Eisen

The Park Hyatt Sydney Opera RoomWith a coveted harbourfront location between the world-famous Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, fans of the Park Hyatt Sydney are in for additional treats when the hotel reopens later this year. The hotel has been closed for seven months, during which its interiors and exteriors were redesigned (nearly from scratch, we hear) and fully transformed. Word is the property is taking reservations for February 2012 onward.

The hotel, in the Rocks district of Sydney's city center, was redone with new rooftop suites, upgraded guest rooms and remodeled public spaces. Nice Touch: Views of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House will be visible through new floor-to-ceiling windows in almost all areas of the property.

Guest rooms are being completely redesigned to complement the hotel’s harbor-front location. The best part? An additional floor is being added for three new rooftop suites, each of which will have large balconies and appropriately luxe amenities. The Sydney Suite, Park Hyatt Sydney’s new presidential quarters, will have an outdoor dining table on a 1,000-square-foot balcony as well as kitchen prep and cooking space for a personal chef. All suites will have floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto a private balcony overlooking Sydney Harbour, and formerly four-paneled floor-to-ceiling windows will be replaced with two larger panes to make for clearer views of the city outside. In addition to new design elements, service enhancements will include twice the former number of hotel butlers to assist all guests and new restaurant-style, hand-carried in-room dining instead of the traditional roll cart.

Apart from private dining options, guests will be able to enjoy locally sourced and biodynamic cuisine in The Dining Room. Its entire façade is being reconstructed to optimize the Opera House view through floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

Hayman Island Resort in Australia Temporarily Closed Due to Cyclone Damage

February 22, 2011
By: Daniel L. Moses

Hayman Island ResortNature giveth, and nature certainly taketh away. Case in point: Hayman Island Resort at The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia. Adjacent to one of the world’s most incredible underwater marvels, Hayman Island offers guests the chance to snorkel and dive in a tropical paradise. The indulgent natural surroundings are only matched by the comfort and luxury of the beach front resort.

Yet the beauty of the oceanic environment can sometimes mask the power of the waters and wind offshore. When two major cyclones rumbled through Queensland earlier this year, Hayman Island Resort was severely damaged. Knowing that their guests deserved only the best, the property was regretfully shuttered until repairs are completed.

Yet just as the tide always returns, so too will Hayman Island Resort. The expected grand re-opening is set for August 1st, just in time to book for the Australian Spring and Summer beginning shortly thereafter. So don’t fret! Hayman Island Resort will be back, and The Great Barrier Reef will be waiting.
