Destination Spotlight: Dublin

March 17, 2017| By:Rachael Weir, Five Star Alliance

Destination Spotlight: Dublin

From distilleries to art museums, there's plenty to see in Ireland's capital city. Set at the mouth of the River Liffey along the country's east coast, Dublin was originally a Viking settlement. During the 17th century, the city prospered, and Georgian style architecture flourished. "The Fair City" became a cultural center and destination for artists and writers.

Today, the charming and bustling city offers an eclectic mix of Victorian pubs, modern buildings, and historical attractions such as manuscripts at The Book of Kells at Trinity College, the Jeanie Johnston Famine Memorial Ship, and the Kilmainhaim Gaol where visitors learn what life was like in Ireland's prisons. Literary enthusiasts will want to discover Dublin's writer haunts, cyclists can venture the Three Rock Cycle Loop in the Dublin mountains, and those that seek fresh sea air can explore nearby coastal towns like Howth. And no visit to Dublin would be complete without some shopping along Grafton Street, the Guinness Storehouse, and a visit to a few local pubs in Temple Bar.

Plus, there's an array of events happening throughout the year including the Dublin Film Festival every February, the St. Patrick's Day Festival on March 17, soccer matches, concerts, and performing arts events.

To compliment Dublin's activities and cultural options, Five Star Alliance offers a selection of luxury hotels that will appeal to a range of travelers including Irish Classics, Contemporary Properties, and Country Estates.
