Did You Know? The Cellars-Hohenort

June 25, 2014
By: Five Star Alliance

The Cellars-Hohenort
In 1693, The Cellars-Hohenort, then known as Klaasenbosch Farm, was the house of Hendrik ten Damme, Chief Surgeon of the Dutch East India Company. The farmhouse is positioned against the wooded knoll of the eastern slope of Table Mountain. During the 1750's it became part of the flourishing farming and wine producing area. The Cellars was the wine cellar of Klaasenbosch Farm.

After numerous owners, Arnold Spilhaus bought the farm in 1906 and replaced the old thatched farmhouse with the magnificent manor in the German style with square gables, designed by architect Seeliger. It was named Hohenort, meaning "high place" in old German.

Spa Treatments We'd Like to Try

December 31, 2013
By: K. Clare Johnson

So many spas, so little time!  With over 4,000 luxury hotels on the site, we have a lot of great spa spots.

Here are a few treatments offered at luxury hotel spas that have recently caught our eye:

-The Spa at Aria (pictured at right) in Las Vegas offers a Shio Salt room. Taking in salt through inhalation is thought to provide respiratory benefits. The illuminated wall of Shio salt bricks is complemented by salt lamps, vibration therapy, and radiant music.

-Intercontinental Thalosso Spa Bora Bora's fittingly named Deep Ocean Spa has glass-floored overwater bungalows enabling you to admire the marine life during your treatment. We'd go for the Deep Sea Hydromassage Bath with Chromatherapy.

-Nob Hill Spa at The Huntington Hotel offers a Cinnamon Ginger Escape.  An exfoliating spiced marmalade scrub with ground nutmeg is followed by an energizing massage using smooth pebbles wrapped in aromatic spice bags soaked in warm oil.

-Hotel Hershey, fittingly, offers a Whipped Cocoa bath,  Chocolate Bean Polish and a Chocolate Fondue wrap in their Chocolate Spa. We'll take all three!

-A  visit to Calistoga isn't complete without a stop at a winery and at the hot springs. After you've visited both,  Napa Valley's Solage Calistoga (pictured at left) has a three-part Mudslide Experience that involves a customized mud body wrap, a relaxing soak in geo-thermal mineral water from their own spring, and then zoning out in a state-of-the-art sound/vibration chair.

-Prague's Hotel Augustine has a St. Thomas Beer Body Ritual. Created using a secret recipe from the Augustinian order of Monks.  It starts with an exfoliation using ground organic beer hops and St. Thomas dark beer, and then finished with a full-body massage.

-Hotel Il Salviatino (pictured at top) offers an an Antixodant Wine Gel Peel. It's a body scrub using red wine gel and exfoliating seeds, followed up by a therapist-supervised aromatic vapor experience and a highly moisturizing massage.
