London’s Newest Top Suite: Sleep Royally at the Mandarian Oriental Hyde Park

Want a suite fit for royalty? We hear the newly reopened Royal Suite at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London will sweep even Queen Elizabeth off her feet.

Extensive renovations of the top accommodation at this chic London address have produced a fresh, contemporary style and an addition of 794 square feet. Design Touch: The hotel made sure to maintain tradition, while simultaneously blending in modern amenities. Consider the Bang & Olufsen sound and audio-visual systems, which are concealed behind antique mirror panels that have crystal rose-embossed detailing. There is also a restored original fireplace and a platinum-topped coffee table specially designed for the hotel, which sits on a Veedon Fleece rug in front of a private bar.

The suite also has high ceilings, a touch we think is a hallmark of a top suite (because who doesn’t love loads of headroom?). A balcony adds an additional 230 square feet and hugs the entire length of the suite. Hint: This is the perfect place to host a swank event, as the space can accommodate 40 guests. Make sure and ask the hotel about bespoke meals, which can be hosted in the private dining room and prepared by staff in the adjoining kitchen.

Fashionistas will love the master bedroom, most notably because of the large walk-in closet with separate male and female areas. Top Touches: The vanity area is framed by Lalique crystal lights, while a convex mirror—designed to reflect the park views—is affixed above the bed.

Moving into the bathroom, we say the fixtures can turn a shower into a religious experience, as guests have a choice of what setting suits them best (think “Thunder and Tropic Water”). A fiber-optic chandelier emulates the look of falling water, making the bathroom a true aquatic playground.

Art admirers will also love the suite for its sculptures and other appointments, which are showcased throughout the Royal Suite via a partnership with the Halcyon Gallery. Word is that the Isis sculpture in the living room is a replica of the one in Hyde Park. Pieces will be replaced with others on a rotating basis. Note: Guests can purchase a piece that catches their eye.
