Hats off to Baur Au Lac, Awarded “Best in Europe” After Major Makeover

Throughout 2009 we kept tabs on the $50 million renovation project of Baur Au Lac, a favorite hideaway for jetsetters on the shores of Switzerland's Lake Zurich. And last fall the fruits of their labor were unveiled: beautiful new restaurants, creatively imagined by designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, and spacious new accommodations done up with custom furnishings, inspired lighting, and top-of-the line technology (including Bose Sound Systems and iPod docking stations). 32 of the hotel's guest rooms were reconfigured into 22 larger suites and deluxe double rooms-- thus enhancing the space available for each guest. The renovation was such a smashing success that Baur au Lac scooped up the "Best in Europe" Commitment to Quality Award at the 2009 convention for Leading Hotels of the World "in recognition of providing the highest levels of excellence in accommodation, facilities and services."
