Disney Goes To Washington

May 21, 2009| By:Alison Victor

The Hay-Adams Hotel Ready or not, Disney has unveiled plans to build a 500-room hotel resort on 15 acres at the National Harbor development, just south of Washington DC, with views of the Washington Monument. The property was bought for $11 million from the Peterson Companies. There is no construction timetable as of yet, but a similar project underway in Oahu is scheduled to open in 2011, meaning "Disney in DC" could be happening sooner rather than later. In a press release, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo praised the National Harbor location as "a family-friendly base camp, from which visitors from around the world can explore the stirring sights and inspirational stories of our nation's capital." Disney also hopes to provide guests with the same amenities and comforts for which they are famous for.
