QUESTION: We are a family of 2 and looking to stay is New Orleans. What hotel do you recommend for our family?
ANSWER: The Cornstalk Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is equally as famous as a tourist attraction as it is a hotel. The fence that stands around it was built by the original owner, Francoise-Xavier Martin, a native of Marseilles, France, in the early 1800's to ease his homesick bride's sorrow for her home state of Iowa. The Cornstalk features beautifully appointed rooms and all the amenities a guest could hope for. The historically maintained and welcoming guest rooms with historic and comfortable furnishings will send you back in time but never wanting for any modern conveniences. Exquisitely, Victorian styled rooms with Old World Charm and 14 foot gold leaf ceilings, chandeliers, fireplaces (decorative only due to local post Katrina ordinances), internet access, and private baths. A common balcony overlooking Royal Street is accessible to all guests.
The hotel is in the heart of the Vieux Carre, featuring the sights, the sounds, gourmet foods, and night life of old New Orleans. Tours of all kinds are available at the hotel desk and the hotel is conveniently located to the Convention Center, Superdome, and bustling heart of the City. The Cornstalk Hotel has played host to many famous guests that include; Bill and Hillary Clinton, Richard Burton and Liz Taylor, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward and even the King himself...Elvis graced the halls of The Cornstalk during the filming of King Creole.
