By: Oksana Balytsky

The Four Seasons Miami underwent a bit of a makeover this past fall, and its updated room designs, new restaurant, and pool terrace have proven to be quite a hit with the Miami visitors. The new rooms feature one of two new color schemes; red and slate, and gray and blue, and aside from vibrant colors, the hotel boasts new furnishings and fabrics, giving this hotel a phenomenal upgrade.

The new restaurant, Edge Steak & Bar replaces a more traditional steakhouse and embraces the concept of lighter, healthier fare. Menu options include ‘steak lite,’ a variety of seafood, sandwiches, and salads. This restaurant also offers a unique dessert concept, ‘Dessert Tapas,’ which are smaller portions for $4 that satisfy your craving and keep you from regret. Edge Steak & Bar will also be serving an incredible Sunday brunch from 11:30am – 3:00pm, and it will feature various serving stations as well as hand-spun cotton candy!

Still need a little convincing? Consider this: The Four Seasons Miami has 3 beautiful outdoor pools with plush daybeds and a poolside butler, so start packing your bags and get ready for the ultimate relaxation in Miami!

White Up My Alley: Bianca Opens at the Delano in Miami Beach

January 25, 2012
By: Christopher Roney

The notoriously blinding Delano Hotel in Miami Beach is opening the doors to its new restaurant, Bianca, this Friday.  Continuing the theme of its all-white guest rooms, Bianca promises to add to an already exclusive and delightful property.  Embracing the Slow Food movement, Bianca provides a gastronomical experience that supports local farming and organic produce, so you know that not only is what you're getting a top-notch holistic food experience, it also does its part to respect its origins. You'd better come prepared with your Visa Platinum, however.  Not only will its silvery sheen go well with the drapes, you'll need it to put back such highlights as All Natural Sirloin Bistecca at $46.

If you can wait for a little while, then come February, the Ume Sushi and Sake Bar will be opening alongside its Italian counterpart for an experience in the best of Eastern cuisine.  Definitely worth a trip to the Delano, now for both the unique decor and the food.

National Works Project: National Hotel South Beach's New Year's Resolution

January 23, 2012
By: Christopher Roney

The National Hotel South Beach is playing a game of Keep-Up-with-the-Joneses with its neighboring hotels, and this can only turn out well for everyone.  After getting approval in November, the National is beginning the redesign work that will change the interior and exterior of the hotel.  As HotelChatter reports, the renovations include a new entrance canopy, a one-story building by the pool deck and most crucially a whole new addition to their backyard.

That addition?  A definitely-not-a-food-truck (illegal by Florida law) that will be serving some kind of deliciousness.  Bets on it?  I'm thinking maybe some delicacies travelling northward from the caribbean, but it could also be the American classics.  In any case, it's a welcome addition to one of South Beach's older and more charming boutique hotels.  We're glad to see that the National Hotel is making an effort to revitalize the property to build on its already lustrous and historic past.

Monteleone's Cocktail Bar is Back in Town

January 20, 2012
By: Christopher Roney

Starting on January 25th, if you're going to be in the New Orleans area, make sure to check out the newly reopened Carousel Bar at Hotel Monteleone.  Hotel Monteleone is maybe the iconic hotel of the Bourbon Street area, and the reopened bar is being celebrated with quiet the kickoff event.  Starting the six month countdown to the Tales of the Cocktail festival, the reopening will feature  special previews of the coming 10th anniversary event, including the festival's first book, Tales of the Cocktail from A to Z.  Not only that, the world-record centerpiece by bead artist Stephan Wanger will be on display and you can view the fine artwork while sipping from your very own complimentary Old Fashioned.  Continue the festivities with a performance by Robin Barnes.

Alongside the reopening, Hotel Monteleone has announced the coming year's regular performers, always free at the Carousel Bar whether you're staying at the hotel or just in the area.  Joining Robin Barnes will be the Luther Kent Quartet, Eudora Evans & Band, the George French Jazz Quartet, and legacy showing Lena Prima, daughter of the Monteleone regular, Louis Prima, in the sixties.  While other hotels might give you similar luxury, none will be closer to the Jazz culture at the heart of New Orleans than the Hotel Monteleone.

Hotels with a History: Carolina Inn

January 17, 2012
By: Oksana Balytsky

Built in 1924 by John Sprunt Hill, a successful businessman and alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Carolina Inn was constructed “to provide for the special wants and comforts of the University alumni and University visitors.” In 1935, John Sprunt Hill donated the Inn to the University under the condition that all profits to go towards “the maintenance and support of the University library, and especially for the support of the collection of books and papers known as the North Carolina Collection,” and his wish is still carried out today.

The Carolina Inn is centrally located in downtown Chapel Hill within walking distance of shopping, art galleries, and the historic Franklin Street district, and it architecturally embraces the rich history of the south. The Inn was originally designed after the Potomac River front of George Washington’s Mt. Vernon, and it has elements of Southern plantation houses as well as Georgian neoclassical attributes. The Carolina Inn is a member of the National Trust’s Historic Hotels of America, and it is beautifully furnished with antiques and historical images. The history, culture, and warm story behind it make the Carolina Inn a luxury property worth exploring.

Very Bad Santa Is Very Good: Hotel Monteleone for Christmas

December 8, 2011
By: Christopher Roney

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for another article from yours truly! Don’t know who I am? That’s okay, sometimes I wake up in a fit of existential angst and ask myself the same the question. But regardless, I have some great news that I’m sure you’ll be excited to hear: The Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans has a suite of featured events for the hotel seasons, including the grand reopening of its cocktail bar. And with signature drinks such as the Joyous Noel or Papa’s Nightcap, they’ll warm your heart and your belly. I’m not even going to tell you what happens during the Very Bad Santa Crawl, but needless to say, if you’re even thinking of staying there on December 10th, it’s a must-see. If you’d rather be a good Santa, they’re offering a children’s holiday tea time. And Christmas day things really cut loose, gourmet-style. And by that, I mean a family feast prepared by their signature chefs. If you’re looking to get away to more cajun climes for the holidays, I can’t think of a better place than the Hotel Monteleone.
