The Top 15 Luxury Hotel Destinations in 2012: #6 Providenciales

December 26, 2012
By: K. Clare Johnson

In the final days of 2012, Five Star Alliance is counting down the Top 15 Luxury Hotels and Resort Destinations Worldwide, as decided by you, our luxury travelers! Be sure to check in with us daily to keep up with our countdown and explore a few of the absolute best and most luxurious hotels in the world for your future travels!

As of today, Five Star Alliance features 17 luxury hotels and resorts in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. Provo, as it is affectionately called,  is approximately 38 square miles and is the most developed island in Turks and Caicos.

What makes our guests love Providenciales?

-Provo has been ranked "Best Beach" by Conde Nast Traveler and by the World Travel Awards for several years running.

-Providenciales was ranked the # 2 rated dive site in the world by Dive magazine.

-Providenciales is home to one of the two Conch farms in the world. You can see Caribbean Queen conchs being raised from veliger to adult, purchase fresh conch for eating, or be entertained by a show starring two trained (and clearly talented) conchs.

-The island's most prominent natural attraction is Chalk Sound National Park. The park is made up of a large shallow lagoon with hundreds of small rocky islands and is a terrific spot for kayaking.

Where to Stay?

-Luxury accommodations on Provo range from beach front boutique hotels like Gansevoort Turks + Caicos to the ultra-private Parrot Cay Turks and Caicos to shingled pavilions at Amanyara.

-As of this writing, a February getaway to Turks and Caicos runs anywhere from $360 a night at Sands at Grace Bay (garden view studio with a private balcony) to $733 a night at Seven Stars Resort (junior suite with a garden view) to $995 a night at Grace Bay Club (pictured) for an oceanfront junior suite.

Did You Know?

-Before 1964, there were no wheeled vehicles on the island.
