Countdown to the Most Haunted Hotel: Hotel del Coronado

October 28, 2014
By: K. Clare Johnson

Hotel del Coronado
According to legend, a former guest by the name of Kate Morgan took her life at the Hotel del Coronado in 1892 and has haunted the place ever since. Morgan had been at the hotel for five days waiting for a man who never arrived. She was found dead of a gunshot wound on an exterior staircase that led to the beach.

Today, Morgan's spirit seems to have remained at The Del, where she tends to occupy her former guestroom. But her beautiful vision – and ghostly pranks – can be experienced throughout the rambling resort and grounds.

Morgan is fond of playing pranks at the hotel's gift shop. The glassware that flies off shelves and the pictures that fall off walls are attributed to her mischevious ways. Because memorabilia related to Marilyn Monroe's 1958 hotel filming of Some Like It Hot seems to be the most prone to tumbling, some speculate that The Del's resident ghost doesn't like sharing the spotlight with Hollywood’s biggest star.

Grande Colonial Hotel La Jolla's
executive chef Jason Knibb was recently named San Diego's "Chef of the Year" by the California Restaurant Association. The historic luxury hotel's NINE-TEN restaurant was also awarded "Best Hotel Restaurant/Fine Dining." Both awards were presented at the 30th annual Gold Medallion Awards dinner.

Knibb joined the staff of the Grande Colonial more than ten years ago. A self-trained chef, he discovered a love of cooking when he was a 17 year old busboy at a local restaurant. He trained under some of the country's finest chefs including Wolfgang Puck, Roy Yamaguchi, and Hans Rockenwagner.

Sometimes, however, you are left with a few questions that go unanswered, and that’s why we’re here. Be sure to explore our new blog series ‘Your Questions Answered’ to find answers to real questions submitted to us by our clients regarding traveling with kids, pets, the best beach hotels, and much more.

Question: I was looking to stay at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Spa in San Diego with my family with check in 12/26/2012 and check out 12/30/2012 and would like to know if you have an offer for 2 rooms with bay view with breakfast included? Also, can the rooms be interconnecting? One room will have 1 king bed and the other room will have 2 double beds.

Answer: The Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Spa does not have breakfast inclusive rates for your dates of travel, but it does have interconnecting room options available. A Luxury King can interconnect with a Luxury 2 Double beds room. These room types are 450 square feet and have a partial bay view. Please be advised that interconnecting rooms cannot be guaranteed and are based on availability.
