By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Four Seasons BeirutThe cool Lebanese capital is getting another luxury hotel addition. (We've been excitedly anticipating the opening of Le Gray, from the hotelier behind London's One Aldwych and Carlisle Bay in Antigua). The other hotel that's crossed our radar? Four Seasons Beirut which is slated to open in December 2009. HotelChatter says that "all you Four Seasons loyalists out there... will have a new reason to visit Beirut." The city's known for its vibrant social scene and Four Seasons is planning to attract the crowds to a sky-high, "see-and-be-seen" rooftop pool lounge. Soaring above Beirut's Corniche, the glass-and-steel landmark building has views of the Mediterranean from private terraces adorning each and every room. Noted designer Pierre-Yves Rochon created the French-inspired interiors, showcasing polished maple, bronzed wallpaper and chinoiserie lamps. With a prime location in "the Paris of the Middle East," the Mediterranean gateway that links Europe to the Middle East, Four Seasons Beirut will feature a full-service spa, meeting and event spaces (including a grand ballroom), and two restaurants and three bars.

Top Spas for Men: H20 The Male Spa at Dubai’s Jumeirah Emirates Towers

By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Jumeirah Emirates TowersThe latest hotel trend? More and more men are seeking out spa treatments. We just mentioned the private barber at the Coeur D'Alene Golf & Spa Resort in Idaho, and Frommer's recently dished on male-friendly spa treatments with some interesting statistics: Men make up 31% of 2008's spa-goers according to the International Spa Association. In a round-up of the best male spas, Frommer's gives a shout out to some of our faves, like the Spa at the Four Seasons Hong Kong and the Willow Stream at the Fairmont Scottsdale. Not surprisingly, H20 The Males Spa at Jumeirah Emirates Towers got a rave review. As we reported back in 2006, this trend-setting spa is located in one of Dubai's top business hotels, exclusively designed as a cure-all for jet-lagged business travelers. Here's the word from Frommer's:

At the Emirates Towers, 80% of guests are male business travelers, says sports and leisure manager Desmond Cawley, so a men-only spa was a natural fit. The more than 30 treatments focus on issues faced by their clientele -- the negative impacts of long-haul travel and late nights and long meetings. Cawley recommends the signature Flotation Pool (60 min., AED330), a private, 1-hour soak in warm salt water accompanied by relaxing tunes. The amount of salt in the water floats the body, and the relaxation is said to be equivalent to 8 hours' sleep. Those looking to combat jet lag should grab a seat at the Oxygen Bar, which Cawley says "will boost the system and improve tissues' oxygenation for better use of energies." The Cosmos active massage chair adds to the experience with 47 different ways of massage. And, if you're like most go-getters, you'll likely be in a rush, so the spa offers a range of 25-minute express massages.

Missoni Family Recipes for the New Hotel Missoni Edinburgh and Kuwait City

By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Hotel MissoniWe've been starstruck by the new Hotel Missonis (in Edinburgh, and opening soon: Kuwait City). And now we've discovered Jen Murphy's fabulous article in Food & Wine that dishes on "Mama Missoni's Italian Table." Not only has the fashion house decorated the hotels in pure Missoni glam (designer furniture and colorful prints galore), but Missoni has also shared Italian family recipes with the restaurant chefs:

For Cucina Missoni, the hotel restaurant, Rosita sifted through her recipe box and selected her 20 family favorites. Then Giorgio Locatelli, the Michelin-starred chef behind London's Locanda Locatelli restaurant and the hotels' consulting chef, worked with her to update them. Both Rosita and Locatelli are from Northern Italy's Lombardy region and grew up eating versions of the classic dishes now on Cucina Missoni's menu: pan-fried scamorza (a provolone-like cheese) served with two pestos, for instance, and grilled eggplant involtini (rolls) topped with goat cheese vinaigrette.
