St. Regis Bal HarbourSlated to open on January 19, 2012, the new St. Regis Bal Harbour promises to bring a new level of luxury to the affluent Florida enclave. Inside the oceanfront development (pictured), both residences and hotel rooms will be available for luxury-seeking sun-worshippers. Hilton Bentley Miami

The days are getting colder, so naturally we're daydreaming about the beach. A little dose of Miami sunshine is looking pretty good right about now. Specifically, a hotel like the Hilton Bentley Miami on world-famous Ocean Drive is a tempting spot for relaxing in luxury on the beach. Overlooking the ocean, the suites are designed with contemporary European furnishings and Italian marble floors. What's more, they all come with stainless steel gourmet kitchens and kitchenettes. A team of beach butlers provides mojitos and cocktails while you bask on the sand, and the Asian-inspired Spa 101 is guaranteed to rejuvenate the body and mind after a night (or two) on the town.

Bazaar-o World: Extraordinary SLS Hotel/José Andrés Restaurant Is Going Global

October 19, 2011
By: Christopher Roney

Being a Washington, DC, local, I can’t help but fall in love with the cuisine of José Andrés, the James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur. He has pioneered the field of molecular gastronomy by cleverly manipulating texture to subvert our expectations. For instance, at his signature DC restaurant, Minibar, instead of a salt-lined margarita glass, you can expect an aerated salty sea-foam floating above your drink. His visionary view of food’s potential to surprise and entice has inspired a new direction in the culinary arts.

So when I heard that his SLS Hotel restaurant in Los Angeles, the Bazaar, is thinking of going global with its brand, I practically jumped out of my chair in anticipation. José Andrés is already slated to open another establishment at the upcoming SLS Hotel in South Beach, Florida, and Robbie McKay, Director of Communications for SBE, the luxury hospitality group who owns the Bazaar, says that they have their eye on the DC market as a possible next location. Keep an eye out on this one folks. This is a hotel restaurant that is far more than the standard luxury fare.

For now, you can only dine at the Bazaar at the SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills.  It's well worth the trip.

Get Ready, South Beach: Thompson Ocean Drive to Open in 2012

September 28, 2011
By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Hotel Victor, South BeachSay goodnight to the Hotel Victor. Located next to the Versace mansion on Ocean Drive in South Beach, the sexy designer hotel once embodied South Beach's pleasure-seeking vibe. Back in 2004, the press fell hard for the concept after the Victor had a major overhaul by French designer Jacques Garcia; the Hotel Victor debuted mini-bars stuffed full of “South Beach life-style essentials” (like chilled eye masks), the personal "vibe manager" to arrange your stay in Miami, and cool, signature treatments like the Jet Lag V at the Spa V. Oh, and let's not forget the illuminated jellyfish tank in the bar. Now we hear that Thompson Hotels has acquired the Hotel Victor will be re-branding it as the Thompson Ocean Drive after a multi-million dollar renovation of the public spaces and guest rooms. Anticipated date of completion: early 2012.

Entrance is available with a $25 pool pass and members of The Sports Club/LA enter free. Cabana packages are available and include use of a cabana by four people, mineral water, fruit platter and one cocktail per person for $150. Reservations are recommended as space is limited.

Green Hotels: Mandarin Oriental Miami Volunteers in the Everglades

July 6, 2011
By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Mandarin Oriental MiamiIts sister hotel may be hogging the spotlight in Paris (talk about a wow-worthy debut!), but the Mandarin Oriental Miami has also been making headlines. Recently the staff of the five-star spa took a volunteer trip to Everglades National Park to work in the "Hole-in-the-Donut" Restoration area-- a 6,600-acre portion of the park that's been overrun by exotic, invasive plants. Previously farmland, the area was planted with Brazilian Pepper in order to aerate the soil around tomato plants and green beans. Alas, the Brazilian Pepper samba-ed its way across the land, quickly taking over the habitat and disrupting the natural ecosystem. The Mandarin Oriental Miami to the rescue. The spa staff-- clad in long-sleeved shirts and long pants to protect against sun, insects, and poison ivy-- pulled up the weeds and replanted the landscape with native trees. Next time you hit up the spa, book the Thai Herbal Compress Ritual, and the Mandarin will donate a native tree to the Everglades.
