By: Alison Victor

W New York Times SquareOnce known as the destination for college spring breakers, Fort Lauderdale has been shifting the focus from party destination to upscale oasis. The downtown area has been steadily growing over the last decade with art galleries, high-rise condos, and gourmet restaurants. As we reported last month, the latest stake in Ft. Lauderdale's claim to luxury destination is the addition of the new oceanfront W Hotel. This stylish and sophisticated 23 story retreat celebrated its grand opening with a star studded bash, attracting the likes of Cindy Crawford and Blake Lively. The property not only boasts an infinity edged pool and suites with panoramic views of the gold coast, but also a Bliss Spa, the ultra-hip Whiskey Blue Bar, and many chic retail boutiques. The W Brand, with destinations in such cultural hubs as New York and

Los Angeles, has been known for its young and modern vibe since its first incarnation over ten years ago. It looks like Ft. Lauderdale will be a new luxury force to be reckoned with in the years to come.

What’s Hot in New York: The New Penthouse Suite at The Tribeca Grand

June 15, 2009
By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Tribeca Grand Hotel, New YorkTalk about the height of luxury. There's a new penthouse suite on the block in Manhattan, and it's pretty swank. What's inside the Penthouse at the Tribeca Grand? A full-sized living room, dining room with sweeping city views from floor-to-ceiling windows, master bedroom with a custom-designed bed draped in luscious fabrics, and a rooftop terrace where you can dine al fresco under a teak pergola or sip cocktails under the stars. The best part of all? It's your own private hideaway, only accessible from the suite's interior staircase. These lavish digs are certainly paramount in NYC. Like a haute private residence in TriBeCa, the place comes equipped with all kinds of high-tech gadgetry: flat-screen plasma televisions, an iMac G5, and Sony Dream Machine Speaker Dock digital music system.

PS. Even if the Penthouse isn't your thing, the Tribeca Grand has other rooms that might be more up your alley, priced at just $229 over the July 4th weekend.

Fairmont Washington DC is now home to 105,000 Italian honeybees. Located on the rooftop of this luxury city hotel now sits three honey beehives, each with one queen bee and 33,000 worker bees.
