David was the only one to correctly guess Last Week's Hotel:
On business in DF? Check into Casa Vieja and savor the flavor of artistic Mexico. (Frida would love this place.) Located in the chic Polanco district near Bosque de Chapultepec, the boutique is furnished with hand-crafted Colonial decor, unique artifacts, and colorful folk art, a fantasy of hand-painted tiles and bold fabrics. Each suite is inspired by the works of Mexican artists (yes, there's a room devoted to Ms. Kahlo). The 10 guest rooms have full kitchens, high-speed Internet, and spacious bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs. The place seems to embody the romance and grandeur of Old Mexico. Reserve a table at Izote, a nearby hot spot run by Patricia Quintana, one of Mexico's top chefs, or dine al fresco at the hotel's own splendid restaurant.
Now's the time to book a stay at the Arizona Biltmore, the legendary "Jewel of the Desert" nestled on 39 acres at the foot of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Easily one of the finest resorts in the world, the Biltmore is a wonderland of sparkling swimming pools (with luxurious poolside cabanas), championship golf, award-winning dining, tennis courts, and a world-class spa. Book the "Higher Degree of Cool" package and score rates as low as $169 per night, plus a $50 daily food and beverage credit. And since Arizona Biltmore is now part of Hilton's Waldorf-Astoria Collection, you can earn double Hilton HHonors Base points with this offer. Available until September 17, 2007.
Brought to you by the same dude who opened Singapore's first boutique hotel, Hotel 1929, the uber-hip New Majestic opened last year to much fanfare. Loh Lik Peng, a lawyer-turned-hotelier, brought the boutique hotel craze to Singapore. Situated on the edge of Chinatown, the New Majestic is housed in a historic shop house, with each of the 30 guest rooms designed by a different emerging Singaporean artist. The result is floor-to-ceiling mirrors, aquarium-themed transparent bathrooms, a mix of vintage and contemporary furniture, and fantastic wall murals. The restaurant is superb; the award-winning chef Yong Bing Ngen cooks up excellent modern Cantonese cuisine in a sleek setting.
When to go? Throughout the month of June, the Singapore Arts Festival will dazzle the city with cutting-edge contemporary art-- an extravaganza of dance, music, and theater. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the Singapore Arts Festival is one of the world's leading arts festivals.
That's right. The Sutton Place Grande Hotels Group-- which includes the elegant, AAA five-diamond Sutton Place Vancouver-- has announced a new, collection-wide guest recognition program. "Sutton Prestige" is quite the rewards program, designed to enhance services to guests during their stay. The two benefit levels for repeat guests are Gold and Platinum. Lucky guests can reach Platinum status after just ten stays, and get VIP treatment and special privileges: late check-out, express check-in, free upgrades, welcome amenities, and more. Accumulate points for every dollar spent and redeem them for valuable gifts and rewards, like spa treatments, dinner for two, plush Sutton Place bathrobes, a two-night stay in a luxury suite, and even airline tickets. Imagine: a hotel that consists of one luxurious private apartment, the three-room suite where Emperor Napoleon III lived in Rome in the 19th century. Stunning, opulent, impossibly romantic, the Residenza is situated in a 16th century palazzo just off Via Condotti. Ascend the marble staircase and step straight into the Old World; the dining room, bedroom, and drawing room are appointed with antique furnishings and rare Gobelin tapestries. Check out the bed (pictured). A magnificent oil painting serves as the headboard. (Plasma TV screens are likewise hidden by canvases. And the exquisite marble bathroom is hidden by another Old Master.) A private butler attends to all your needs, and the owner, Princess Letizia Ruspoli, is an excellent hostess/concierge.
The ultimate design hotel in Paris was designed by Christian Lacroix, who describes this colorful gem as "like couture, where the harmony is created from a puzzle of inspirations." Housed in a former 17th century bakery in the Marais quartier (rumored to be the oldest boulangerie in the city), the Hotel du Petit Moulin has 17 rooms which each boast a different theme-- from Baroque to sci-fi. Lacroix utilized lush fabrics-- velvet, taffeta, linen, leather-- in exuberant, dreamlike design. (The Website is as fantastic and whimsical as the hotel.) Guest rooms are outfitted with flat screen TVs, wifi access, large soaking tubs, and Anne Sémonin bath amenities. Book room 204 and enjoy a wall of Lacroix fashion sketches. Breakfast served, though there is no on-site restaurant.
