LUXURY HOTEL INSIDER
Hot off the press. The Waldorf-Astoria Collection, whose spectacular global properties include the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa in Phoenix, the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa on the Isle of Maui, La Quinta Resort and Club in Southern California, New York's legendary Waldorf-Astoria and the sumptuous palace hotel Qasr Al Sharq in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will introduce its first luxury hotel in Israel. Scheduled for the end of 2010, the historic Customs Building and Palace Hotel will be transformed into a 220-room property dubbed The Palace Jerusalem- The Waldorf-Astoria Collection. Plus, there will be 30 luxurious residences, three restaurants, a spa and fitness center, and extensive meeting and conference facilities. The location is superb, just a short distance from the Old City, at the intersection of King David, Agron and Mamilla Streets. After an estimated $100 million in renovations, the building will still retain its marvelous historic façade with decorative arches and stone carvings.
We've been oohing and ahhing over the posh urban resort that is San Diego's Ivy Hotel, and it looks like we're not the only ones to be swooning. The Ivy was just included in Conde Nast Traveler's 12th annual "Hot List" of the World's Top New 136 Hotels. Here's the word:
...substance also accompanies the sexy style. Each of the 159 rooms is assigned an amiable and efficient butler who will run a bubble bath or fetch more champagne. The rooftop sundeck (where after-dark movies are screened) is strewn with daybeds, private cabanas and wicker "pods" for two. At Quarter Kitchen, chef Damon Gordon's offbeat repertoire includes truffled leek empanadas and caviar tacos. The Ivy's nightlife scene remains a hot ticket in the Gaslamp Quarter, with the crowd gathering to watch the city lights (and one another) at the rooftop Eden Bar, before descending into the depths of Envy for techno and bottle service rendered by servers in pleather minidresses...

Bring your four-legged friend to the courtyard of the Hotel Monaco Alexandria every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. As pointed out by the good folks at Daily Candy, both "pups and peeps" will have a great time at this pet-friendly gathering. The hotel even has a Director of Pet Relations "Charlie" (described as a "very handsome Bischon"). Nestled in the heart of historic Old Town Alexandria just minutes from Washington D.C., the Hotel Monaco recently emerged from an elaborate mega-renovation. At the Doggie Happy Hour, Fido can chow down on complimentary gourmet doggie snacks while you feast on regional American cuisine from the adjacent restaurant Jackson 20-- focusing on ingredients sourced from local waters and nearby farms.
The award-winning Beau-Rivage Palace knows a thing or two about gastronomy. As described by Travel and Leisure, the hotel is "considered by many to be the finest hotel in Switzerland" and Coco Chanel herself lived in one of the 29 suites. The Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant, La Rotonde, boasts an exquisite setting in the center of a park with views of the Alps and Lac Leman. (The wine selection is mind-blowing.) The Café Beau-Rivage is a deluxe brasserie with a large lakeside terrace. And just opened last Fall: the stylish, contemporary Miyako Lausanne, serving traditional Japanese cuisine with sushi and sashimi prepared on the spot.
