Featuring eco-couture, urban casual, street- and active-wear from all over North America and the globe, Portland Fashion Week is "the world's only comprehensively eco-sustainable production of a fashion week." Running until October 11, the week features many independent designers whose work was produced with minimal environmenal impact. Along with these hot fashions, the models will be wearing ecological cosmetics.
Looking for a place to shack up in Portland? Five Star Alliance recommends the Hotel Monaco (filled with original art from Pacific Northwest artists), the Heathman Hotel, The Nines from the Starwood Luxury Collection and The Allison in Oregon's wine country.

By: Mary Winston Nicklin
We've been starstruck by the new Hotel Missonis (in Edinburgh, and opening soon: Kuwait City). And now we've discovered Jen Murphy's fabulous article in Food & Wine that dishes on "Mama Missoni's Italian Table." Not only has the fashion house decorated the hotels in pure Missoni glam (designer furniture and colorful prints galore), but Missoni has also shared Italian family recipes with the restaurant chefs:
For Cucina Missoni, the hotel restaurant, Rosita sifted through her recipe box and selected her 20 family favorites. Then Giorgio Locatelli, the Michelin-starred chef behind London's Locanda Locatelli restaurant and the hotels' consulting chef, worked with her to update them. Both Rosita and Locatelli are from Northern Italy's Lombardy region and grew up eating versions of the classic dishes now on Cucina Missoni's menu: pan-fried scamorza (a provolone-like cheese) served with two pestos, for instance, and grilled eggplant involtini (rolls) topped with goat cheese vinaigrette.
