Did You Know? No.11 Cadogan Gardens

January 6, 2014
By: Five Star Alliance

No 11 Cadogan Gardens

Originally four separate Victorian townhouses, No.11 Cadogan Gardens was built by Lord Chelsea in
the late 19th Century. The desirable Knightsbridge location and elegant design of the hotel meant it
became a home away from home for Victorian aristocrats, politicians, and celebrities. At the time, the
borough had a reputation for being London’s bohemian quarter, and was the haunt of radicals, artists,
and poets. A portrait of Hans Sloane, the namesake of Sloane Square, hangs at the foot of the grand staircase.

The Four Seasons Hotel Milano Debuts Renovated Royal and Fashion Suites

January 3, 2014
By: Five Star Alliance

Got a flair for fashion? Want to feel like royalty? Here are two updated suites that should fit the bill: The Four Seasons Hotel Milano recently renovated its Fashion and Royal Suites, and we think they're worth a peek. (Click on images to view larger versions).

The Four Seasons Hotel Milano Royal Suite in Milan

Interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon (who also redesigned hotels like the Goring and the Savoy in London) recreated the spaces, both located in the Hotel's casa ringhiera wing and arranged around open balconies that overlook a glass-covered atrium.

The Four Seasons Hotel Milano Fashion Suite in MilanAs the Hotel's top accommodation, the Royal Suite occupies the entire fifth floor of Four Seasons Hotel Milano. Rochon gave the space a home-like atmosphere by adding a library and using different styles of furniture- "like people do in private apartments," Rochon said.

A white leather partition divides the bedroom area from the lounge space. The bed is now positioned to face the suite's step-out balcony (top views across the rooftops of Milan, we hear). The suite's sitting and reading room has a fireplace that overlooks a private terrace and garden manicured with iconic Mediterranean plants. The kitchenette is equipped with temperature-controlled wine refrigerators and modern tools for preparing meals. The Four Seasons Hotel Milano Royal Suite in MilanAccessible by a dedicated elevator, the Royal Suite can be connected via a private internal staircase to a Premium Room and an Executive Suite on the floor below to become either a two- or three-bedroom residence.

With a decidedly contemporary look, the Fashion Suite (Suite 444) on the fourth floor of the Hotel evokes the 1950s and 60s with furniture pieces by Saarinen and a color scheme of bright kelly green with black and white accents.

The suite has a long terrace bordered with hedges and a Knoll table and chairs fitted with cushions for a relaxing afternoon in the fresh air.

Both the Royal Suite and the Fashion Suite were restyled as part of the Hotel's ongoing room refurbishment project.

A dramatically reborn 15th-century convent with a mere 118 rooms and suites, the intimate Four Seasons is steps from Milan's couture houses and financial district on the exclusive Via Gesu between Via Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga.

Spa Treatments We'd Like to Try

December 31, 2013
By: K. Clare Johnson

So many spas, so little time!  With over 4,000 luxury hotels on the site, we have a lot of great spa spots.

Here are a few treatments offered at luxury hotel spas that have recently caught our eye:

-The Spa at Aria (pictured at right) in Las Vegas offers a Shio Salt room. Taking in salt through inhalation is thought to provide respiratory benefits. The illuminated wall of Shio salt bricks is complemented by salt lamps, vibration therapy, and radiant music.

-Intercontinental Thalosso Spa Bora Bora's fittingly named Deep Ocean Spa has glass-floored overwater bungalows enabling you to admire the marine life during your treatment. We'd go for the Deep Sea Hydromassage Bath with Chromatherapy.

-Nob Hill Spa at The Huntington Hotel offers a Cinnamon Ginger Escape.  An exfoliating spiced marmalade scrub with ground nutmeg is followed by an energizing massage using smooth pebbles wrapped in aromatic spice bags soaked in warm oil.

-Hotel Hershey, fittingly, offers a Whipped Cocoa bath,  Chocolate Bean Polish and a Chocolate Fondue wrap in their Chocolate Spa. We'll take all three!

-A  visit to Calistoga isn't complete without a stop at a winery and at the hot springs. After you've visited both,  Napa Valley's Solage Calistoga (pictured at left) has a three-part Mudslide Experience that involves a customized mud body wrap, a relaxing soak in geo-thermal mineral water from their own spring, and then zoning out in a state-of-the-art sound/vibration chair.

-Prague's Hotel Augustine has a St. Thomas Beer Body Ritual. Created using a secret recipe from the Augustinian order of Monks.  It starts with an exfoliation using ground organic beer hops and St. Thomas dark beer, and then finished with a full-body massage.

-Hotel Il Salviatino (pictured at top) offers an an Antixodant Wine Gel Peel. It's a body scrub using red wine gel and exfoliating seeds, followed up by a therapist-supervised aromatic vapor experience and a highly moisturizing massage.

Did You Know? Ashford Castle

December 16, 2013
By: Five Star Alliance

Ashford Castle
Ashford Castle
in Mayo is founded by the Anglo-Norman de Burgo family following their defeat of the native O'Connors of Connaught. The de Burgo's would build several such castles throughout the province, but Ashford in Ireland would remain the principal stronghold. The native O'Connors also leave a legacy in the form of the nearby 12th century Augustinian abbey of Cong, Co.Mayo, built on the site of a 6th century monastery.

After more than three and a half centuries under the de Burgo's, Ashford passes into the hands of a new owner. following a fierce battle between the forces of the de Burgo's and those of the English Lord Bingham, governor of Connaught, a truce is agreed and the castle falls to Bingham who adds a fortified enclave within its precincts.
