Gotta love Kimpton Hotels for their humor and wit. Breakfast for a buck-- too gimmicky? Who cares when guests can feast on recession savings like that. "January Jumpstart" was pretty nifty, too, doling out all sorts of good-for-you amenities to folks looking to stick to their New Year's Resolutions. Now the chain-- famous for its one-of-a-kind properties each with personalities and perks all their own-- has announced a "Sweet Tax Relief" Package in honor of Tax Day on April 15th. Available throughout the month of April, Kimpton is dishing out sweet treats and paying your room tax. Check into participating hotels like 70 Park Avenue in New York, Denver's Hotel Monaco, Hotel Solamar in San Diego, Hotel Marlowe and Nine Zero in Boston, Portland's Hotel Monaco, and Hotel Palomar in San Francisco and you'll get a late check-out with your deluxe accommodations, plus a sweet grab-bag filled with candy such as PAYDAY, 100 Grand and Sugar Daddy. The hotel will pay your room tax, along with the meal tax if you dine at the hotel restaurant. The best part? Room rates start at $99.

As big a fan of movies as I am of travel, I always love to know what places serve as settings to great stories told through film. Recently I had the pleasure of seeing "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," which is as much a love story between the main characters as it is to the city of Barcelona. In a pivotal scene, the main character Vicky listens as her Aunt Judy pours her heart out while seated in a city cafe. The place happens to be Cafe Vienes, the famous Modernist cafe within the Casa Fuster Hotel. As Barcelona's only historic building, Casa Fuster Hotel is also the only place offering panoramic views of the city and Paseo de Gracia. Renovated in the Art Nouveau style, Casa Fuster Hotel is a great luxury destination for any traveler, and any film buff, but definitely better for both!
If you book now for April, you can stay for under 200 Euro a night.
We've been waiting with bated breath, and now the day has finally arrived. Capella Hotels and Resorts has opened its first hotel in Asia-- its flagship in Singapore on Sentosa Island, a bucolic setting of white sandy beaches and lush rainforest. Singapore's recreational resort, Sentosa Island is connected to the dynamic urban center by a causeway. The crème de la crème of the island's luxury lodgings is the new Capella, an architectural masterpiece with the largest guest rooms in Singapore. Nice perk: Many of the one- and two-bedroom garden villas overlook the South China Sea and feature private plunge pools and outdoor bathing facilities. Deals: For a limited time, you can stay for three nights while only paying for two.

Exclusive, stylish, and luxurious are three words that come to mind when you think of Bal Harbour, Florida. Just a short distance from both Fort Lauderdale and Miami, Bal Harbour is the fashion capital of South Florida. This mecca of upscale boutiques includes everything from Valentino to Armani. There is no better place to stay while there than The Regent Bal Harbour. After a long day of upscale shopping and people watching on palm tree-lined streets, you can easily walk to The Regent Bal Harbour or have the hotel pick you up in their private luxury car. Book now and you can enjoy four nights for the price of three, which will give you even more reason to shop til you drop.
Hotelchatter has a good point: How is it feasible that Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel is giving guests a late check-out of 6 p.m.? When do the other guests check-in? Bravo to the lavish seaside resort for treating guests right with the "Double Your Sunset" Package. With the 6 p.m. late check-out, you'll have a whole extra day to frolick in the surf, soak up the California rays, or hit up the newly-renovated Ocean Spa and Fitness Center. Plus, when you book this package, you'll also get a $75 credit for the spa. Available April 1- December 1, 2009.
Today is the last day you can take advantage of a special offer at San Francisco's lavish Palace Hotel, a member of Starwood's Luxury Collection. Save up to 50 percent with "Better Tomorrows": Book one night and your second night is half off, for stays through September 7, 2009. This translates to $126 per night at the hotel deemed the largest, most luxurious and costly in the world when it opened in 1875. Envisioned by William Chapman Ralston and William Sharon, The Palace Hotel was designed as the American counterpart to the grand hotels of Europe. The American public went gaga over the building's majesty: 7,000 windows, 14-foot high ceilings, hydraulic elevators (an engineering marvel for the time!), and splendid Garden Court-- the glass-domed courtyard with towering Italian marble columns, Austrian crystal chandeliers, and gold leaf sconces. Today the hotel has been lovingly restored and boasts a central location adjacent to the Financial District.
In conjunction with the launch of the new Raffles.com, Raffles Hotels and Resorts is running a contest whereby the grand prize winner gets five nights in a Presidential Suite at any of the seven properties world-wide-- from Dubai (pictured) to the Grenadines. Hop to it! Deadline is today. You may just win your dream stay at any Raffles worldwide.
