By: K. Clare Johnson

Chicago winters are nothing to joke about. While we hope the frigid weather is behind us,  but just in case The Spa at Trump is offering some Chocotherapy to warm up the senses. The 23,000 sq. ft. Spa at Trump, located inside the Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago, features an array of 5 star services with 11 treatment rooms and 53 spa guestrooms overlooking the Chicago skyline. Here's just a few of the winter services they offer:

-Lovers of chocolate will want to sign up for the Hot Chocolate Body Scrub. The exfoliating treatment helps loosen fat and has an anti-cellulite effect. After the scrub, the skin is hydrated by an delectable chocolate mousse and you get to sip on a delicious cup of hot chocolate. Pair it with the Hot Chocolate Pedicure for the complete decadent service. You'll get a vanilla foot bath followed by a creamy chocolate exfoliation treatment and the chocolate mousse application mentioned above.

-Prefer pearls over chocolate?  The Black Pearl Body Treatment uses crushed black pearls to exfoliate away dead skin cells and promotes hydration and skin tone. It can be paired with the Black Pearl Facial where Pearl Essence Powder exfoliates and then firms and hydrates the skin.

Exclusive to the Chicago location of Spa at Trump are year-round services which are designed to combat the harsh effects of city living with natural ingredients that detoxify and replenish.

-The Ultimate Urban Body Mask begins with a body purifying exfoliation featuring detoxifying herbal mineral sals and antioxidant vitamins. That's followed by a blue-green algae mask enhanced with chlorophyll extracts to infuse the skin with potent cellular nutrition. The treatment finished up with a replenishing massage application of detoxifying aromatherapy oils, including cypress, rosemary and grapefruit.

-The 90-minute Ultimate Urban Facial is designed to enhance all skin types. It begins with a deep cleanse using 100% natural cleansers and floral waters designed to wash away dull surface skin cells. Cellular renewal is then stimulated with a glycolic or fruit enzyme peel designed to exfoliate and reduce the appearance of fine lines. To cap off the experience, you'll receive a warm and soothing foot massage.

-The Ultimate Urban Neck & Shoulder Massage combines acupressure and massage techniques, hot and cold volcanic rocks, and specially formulate shea butter and is designed to penetrate deeply into muscles and joints.

Art at The James Chicago

February 8, 2013
By: K. Clare Johnson

Art in Chicago has a new place to check in to.  It's not just The Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Contemporary Art, National Museum of Mexican Art, anymore, now you can get Art@TheJames.

The James Chicago pays homage to the creative neighborhood that it calls home. Artists are a mix of local and international artists, both emerging and prominent.

Currently, The James Chicago is featuring Joel Ross, Demarcus Purham, Monique Meloche, Nienke Sybrandy, Andrea Mantin, and Kristina Estell.

The entire James Hotel experience, from your arrival all the way to the walls of your guestroom, aims to be a journey of visual and cultural luxury.

The Joel Ross installation shown at right is called Room 28. The artist checked into a motel and packed the entire contents of the room into antique suitcases.

We wouldn't recommend packing up your room at The James Chicago, but you should definitely enjoy being surrounded by art!

Anthony Bourdain Approved Hotels

November 28, 2012
By: Oksana Balytsky

Anthony Bourdain’s show The Layover is back for another season, and we can’t wait to see what interpretation about a place, its people, and the food he can come up with between his flights. We’re particularly interested in the show since he’ll be featuring the hotels at which he crashes during his layovers, and we assume Mr. Bourdain wouldn’t catch some zzz’s at any old motel.

Just as we expected, Anthony Bourdain proves to stay in style with the first episode featuring the Four Seasons Chicago. According to Anthony Bourdain, “this hotel is swank as all get out. The industry gold standard in big ass, comfortable beds.” We would have to agree with you there, Anthony, and also give our stamp of approval to the Four Seasons Chicago for their luxurious beds, superb downtown location, and the Martini Man with his traveling cart, ready to whip you up any drink in the comfort of your own room.

Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park Hosts the Ultimate Presidential Viewing Party

November 7, 2012
By: K. Clare Johnson

Fairmont Chicago

The election night return viewing party to be at was clearly at the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park.  Last night, the downtown Chicago luxury hotel near Grant Park played host to not just President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, but also VP Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden.  POTUS, FLOTUS, VPOTUS, and SLOTUS hunkered down in a suite to watch the returns roll in and later, to celebrate re-election. What isn't clear is if the viewing party was held in the hotel's Obama-themed Presidential suite. The 1,850-sq.-ft. top floors suite overlooks Grant Park, where Obama made his historic acceptance speech in 2008. The suite has a selection of memorabilia from Obama's political career, a Kauai grand piano, 300 thread count linens, whirlpool tub, and a library stocked with presidential tomes, such as former president Clinton's autobiography.  The minibar and pantry are well-stocked with the First Family's favorite snacks, which include corn chips and iced tea.

Republican candidate Mitt Romney spent the evening watching returns from a hotel room at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel.  His running mate Paul Ryan joined him later.
