Scouting out the ideal honeymoon spot? For a real luxury value, consider the vibrant isle of Puerto Rico, just a short flight away from the East Coast. El Conquistador Resort and Golden Door Spa is situated high on a cliff overlooking the sparkling azure sea. You may just want to relax by the pool, but when you're feeling restless, a slew of activities awaits: world-class golf, spa, casino, water park, wind surfing, scuba diving, and fishing. When you book the Island Romance package, you can enjoy rates starting from just $275 based on a four night minimum stay. You'll be picked up at the airport, then treated to chilled Champagne and tropical fruit in-room upon arrival. You'll also get full Caribbean breakfast daily, and two 50-minute massages. Available until December 31, 2009. (Rates vary depending on the season-- as high as $521 in March-- but are still quite the deal.)
The posh Amanyara resort has just extended its Summer Rates until December 18th. Just steps from the sand and pristine coral reefs offshore, this Turks and Caicos hideaway is luxury made tangible. Ocean enthusiasts and adventure buffs prize the scuba diving and sailing, but the land activities are equally as alluring. Tennis anyone? There's also a multimedia screening room and elegant spa. The pavilions showcase the best of contemporary design with terraces and daybeds, gleaming kitchens, and infinity edge pools in black volcanic rock. Even better: The hotel has just announced its new Beach Villa accommodations, perched on the postcard-perfect sandy beach a stone's throw from the sea.
These days, deals abound at five-star lodgings. Occupancy rates are down and luxury hotels are slashing their rates. Case in point: The big Seven Day Sale at Fairmont Hotels, where you can get 20 percent savings plus a free night when you book by October 27th for stays between November 3 and April 15, 2009. Bed down at the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello, the world's largest log cabin, hit up the Windy City with $155 rates at the Fairmont Chicago, bask in Bermuda for $189 at the Fairmont Southampton, or secure $119 rates in Silicon Valley at the Fairmont San Jose. An added perk: You can earn double airline miles on Fairmont's partner airlines (Air Canada, United and American) when you book the Only One Way rates.
Serenade and seduce your sweetheart in style. Tortuga Bay Puntacana Resort and Club has unveiled their "Pure Pampering Menu," and the delightful mixture of food, wine, music, and massage will melt the hardest of hearts.
Picnic with your beloved on the beach after the rising of the full moon from $100 for the Moonlight Islander Picnic to $175 for the Royal Highness Picnic. Or, spring for the $375 Dominican Farewell, which features couples' massages by the beach at sunset, Moet & Chandon cocktails, and canapes.
If the beach doesn't appeal, you can book a $220 Romantic Escapade. Just like in the movies, your suite will be set for romance with candles, champagne, and rose petals floating in scented bath water. Or opt for Dinner a Deux for $340 per couple. You'll get a personalized menu, exclusive butler service, chilled champagne, candlelight and soft recorded music. A live musician (flautist or saxophonist) can be had for an additional $300 per hour.
The truly creative can create their own romantic escapade. Cake, floral arrangements, chocolate dipped fruits, and champagne are all available for purchase.
Flee the cold front and escape to The Sands at Grace Bay Beach Hotel, the all-suite luxury resort nestled on the world-famous Grace Bay Beach of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Indulge in a little piece of turquoise heaven, and get two free nights on a seven night stay until October 31st, 2008. This special offer translates to 30 percent off regular rates, with prices starting at $185. Non-motorized water sports and continental breakfast is included. The resort has pools, a beachfront restaurant, recreational activities, and nearby golf. Suites are equipped with oversized balconies and full kitchens. If you miss out on this special offer, you can still take advantage of the "Seventh Night Free" until December 20th, 2008.
As the economy takes a nose-dive and folks are less likely to travel, we've been witnessing lots of unprecedented deals at luxury hotels. Case in point: The "Escape to the Spa" package with participating Ritz-Carlton hotels, where guests are enticed to stay during the month of October with a hefty spa credit. You can get an oceanfront massage at the Ritz-Carlton Cancun (pictured), experience a massage in the moonlight at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas, relax in a spa sanctuary in the center of the Mile High City at the Ritz-Carlton Denver, immerse yourself in a Roman mineral bath at the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay, tone your physique with a haute couture body treatment at the Ritz-Carlton South Beach, or luxuriate with a Voodoo Love Massage at the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans.
We're so in love with the Regent Bal Harbour (pictured at right- home to North America's first Guerlain Spa), that we can hardly wait for the proposed Puerto Rico property to open its doors. If the amenities are anywhere near as swanky as the Regent Bal Harbour (shower toe-testers, anyone? to get the bath temperature right), we're in for a treat. The Regent Palmas del Mar Puerto Rico is scheduled to open on the beach approximately 30 minutes southeast of San Juan in December 2011. The 150 rooms-- including 96 guestrooms, 52 suites, a 5,500 square foot Presidential Suite, and Presidential Beach Cottage with views of the island Vieques-- will be designed by Trish Wilson who is known for the fine interiors at The Palace of the Lost City Hotel (South Africa) and Little Dix Bay. Also in store: a signature restaurant (with a celeb chef), three pools, preferred tee times at nearby championship golf courses, and a spa with five over-water suites.
Montego Bay luxury resort Half Moon is offering a golf deal that will delight both duffers and pros. Now through Dec.14, 2008, golfers who book a minimum three-night stay can take advantage of the Total Golf Experience package. Golfers will get their own cart and caddy to golf daily on the "Best Walking Course in the Caribbean." They'll also get unlimited golf green fees (18-holes daily), welcome gift of champagne, sleeve of Half Moon Logo Balls and Logo Hat, luxurious accommodations, 5 star dining, and airport transfers. Rates begin at $395 per person per night.
Half Moon is a luxury resort situated on crescent-shaped white sand beaches, with 398 rooms including suites, cottages and villas. In addition to luxurious accommodations, Half Moon also features a recently renovated Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed 18-hole golf course, and the Half Moon Golf Academy.
Mood soured by the financial crisis and economic slowdown? To soften the blow to our wallets, Caribbean hotels have slashed their prices in an effort to entice travelers to their island shores. In fact, this could be the best time to splurge on a beach vacation, as we're seeing some of the best deals we've seen in years. Case in point: The drop-dead-gorgeous Turks and Caicos Club, its 21 suites unaffected by Hurricane Ike, has rates for just $247.50 per night until November 9, 2008- a 50 percent discount from the same period last year. Nestled on the picture-perfect beaches of Grace Bay on Providenciales island, the award-winning resort is housed in a Caribbean-colonial mansion. Each of the 21 suites boasts a fully-equipped kitchen with stainless steel KitchenAid appliances, large private porch facing the sea, Internet access, and cable TV. It's like your own private apartment- only you get all the great amenities and service provided by a luxury resort (like twice-daily maid service). Lucky guests can enjoy the island's best snorkeling reef just offshore. You can enjoy the complimentary use of non-motorized water-sports equipment including HobieCats, windsurfers, sea kayaks, and snorkeling equipment.
