Cap Juluca offers unparalleled luxury on 179 secluded acres of beachfront. This summer you can get a seventh night free, with room rates starting at $495 per night (vs. $825 in the winter).

What’s Hot: The Geejam Hotel, Port Antonio, Jamaica

By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Geejam HotelMusic producer Jon Baker created Geejam as a recording hideaway for folks like No Doubt, Common, India.Arie, Björk and Gorillaz. (Gwen Stefani gave it a shout out at the 2003 Grammy Awards.) Now it's morphed into a hotel, the ultimate insider's escape, as part of Island Outpost, the boutique hotel collection from record mogul Chris Blackwell. Nestled on six lush acres of the San San Estate, from the foothills of the Blue Mountains to the Caribbean, the property is near to the celebrated beaches at Frenchman's Cove and Blue Lagoon. As recently featured in Vanity Fair, these music veterans "have teamed up to turn the creative hideaway into a jewel box of a hotel, complete with intimate cabins, a private beach, and a treetop restaurant tucked into the Jamaican rainforest." Also included: spa, swimming pool, gym, and state-of-the-art recording studio, of course. In the hotel's guestbook, Grace Jones described her visit like this: "I came. I saw. You conquered me!"

Summer Bargains in the Caribbean: Radisson Aruba, Sivory Punta Cana, Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall (Jamaica), Discovery at Marigot Bay (St. Lucia)

By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Discovery at Marigot BayReconsider the Caribbean in summer. In the Sunday Travel section, the New York Times explains why the summer season, contrary to popular belief, is actually the best time to head south to the Caribbean. Temperatures are only a few degrees higher than the peak season (and soothing ocean breezes mean these paradise isles are actually cooler than the popular beach spots in the U.S.). More importantly, room rates at leading resorts can be found at 60 percent lower than the winter rates. Case in point: the Radisson Aruba Resort's Summer Fun Sale means rooms can be found for $275 per night, plus a fourth night free. The ultra-luxurious Sivory Punta Cana, located on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic, drops rates to $290 per night (vs. $490 in the winter season). You can snag a room at the Ritz-Carlton Golf and Spa Resort, Rose Hall for just $199 a night. And the gorgeous Discovery at Marigot Bay in St. Lucia is going for $330 per night (including tax and breakfast).
