Phulay Bay in Krabi, Thailand: The Latest from the New Ritz-Carlton “Reserve” Brand

By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Phulay Bay, A Ritz Carlton ReserveBack in 2006 we started raving about Molasses Reef, the unspoiled island destination in the Turks and Caicos that would be the setting for the first "Ritz-Carlton Reserve"-- the "highest tier of luxury properties" designed in an eco-friendly way with respect for the local environment. Now our friends over at Luxury Insider have spilled the beans about the latest in the Ritz-Carlton Reserve collection: Phulay Bay, "tucked away in the midst of limestone karsts and hidden waterfalls in Thailand's diving hotspot Krabi and embraced by the Andaman Sea." Guest rooms feature walk-in wardrobes, outdoor verandah lounge beds, rainforest showers, and indoor and outdoor baths. 24-hour personal butler service is a given. And facilities include a beautiful infinity pool, state-of-the-art gym, and first destination ESPA.

By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Regent Bal HarbourWe're so in love with the Regent Bal Harbour (pictured at right- home to North America's first Guerlain Spa), that we can hardly wait for the proposed Puerto Rico property to open its doors. If the amenities are anywhere near as swanky as the Regent Bal Harbour (shower toe-testers, anyone? to get the bath temperature right), we're in for a treat. The Regent Palmas del Mar Puerto Rico is scheduled to open on the beach approximately 30 minutes southeast of San Juan in December 2011. The 150 rooms-- including 96 guestrooms, 52 suites, a 5,500 square foot Presidential Suite, and Presidential Beach Cottage with views of the island Vieques-- will be designed by Trish Wilson who is known for the fine interiors at The Palace of the Lost City Hotel (South Africa) and Little Dix Bay. Also in store: a signature restaurant (with a celeb chef), three pools, preferred tee times at nearby championship golf courses, and a spa with five over-water suites.

In fact, this could be the best time to splurge on a beach vacation, as we're seeing some of the best deals we've seen in years. Each of the 21 suites boasts a fully-equipped kitchen with stainless steel KitchenAid appliances, large private porch facing the sea, Internet access, and cable TV. Lucky guests can enjoy the island's best snorkeling reef just offshore. You can enjoy the complimentary use of non-motorized water-sports equipment including HobieCats, windsurfers, sea kayaks, and snorkeling equipment.
