To help celebrate Children's Day on June 1, Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing has launched the "Beaming Faces Bloom" campaign. The luxury hotel invites you to submit photos of the innocent smiling faces of children aged 0-16 years (unlimited entries).
The photos collected will be put together to form a giant mosaic to be displayed in the hotel lobby, and uploaded to the hotel's and group's official website and on some press sites in celebration of the Children's Day on June 1.
Anyone submitting the photos will get a chance to win a two-night stay in a Presidential Suite in any of the Shangri-La Group's hotels.
Enter from now until May 20, 2013. To enter, forward photos along with the child's name, nationality, parent's name, and contact (phone and email) to firstname.lastname@example.org.

According to Earthhour.org, 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries turned off their lights for Earth Hour in 2011, sending an impacting message to spark action on climate change. The Shangri-La Hotel Beijing is a proud participant in conserving energy for Earth Hour for the last three years, making 2012 its fourth consecutive participation year! Earth Hour is a global event organized by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, and we’re thrilled to see luxury hotels playing their part in conserving energy!
Tomorrow, March 31st, between 8:00pm and 10:00pm, the Shangri-La Hotel Beijing will stop the turnstiles and escalators, and dim or turn off the lights in public areas, restaurants and bars, shops, guestroom corridors, house areas, and back activity areas. Additionally, this luxury hotel will host an Earth Hour Party at Cloud Nine Bar, serving complimentary cocktails to guests of the hotel who support Earth Day and have turned off the lights in their rooms. According to Christopher Chia, the area general manager of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, “at the Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing, environmental protection, energy conservation and the reduction of waste emissions are integral components of our corporate social responsibilities. We hope that our involvement in this event will enhance staff and guest awareness of the need to protect our environment for future generations.” We couldn’t have put it better ourselves! What better place to celebrate the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays than China itself? Chinese New Year is on January 23rd, and the Shangri-La Hotel Beijing has gone above and beyond to ensure a phenomenal celebration. This Shangri-La property has put together various gift packs with a variety of sticky rice cakes and rice balls which make perfect gifts for family members and friends. The hotel will also be putting on a traditional feast featuring a suckling pig, roast duck, and poon choi. No surprise to see the Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing selected as the official hotel for the 2011 China Open Tennis Tournament for the eighth year in a row. The staff has been highly trained to attend to the world's top tennis stars-- working with the players' nutritionists on specific dietary needs,* talking with their trainers about customized exercise programs and specialized massages. And of course handling all that extra laundry! A team of personal butlers was on call to make the players feel at home.
The world’s top-seeded tennis stars played the China Open from September 30 to October 9, 2011, and the Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing hosted more than 300 guests who attended the event. The hotel was also the official caterer for VIPs at the VIP lounge.
*Over the 10-day period, the hotel's chefs sourced highly nutritious ingredients in preparing carboydrate- and potassium-rich meals, amounting to at least half a ton of pasta and half a ton of bananas, 3,000 eggs, 500,000 ml of olive oil as well as truckloads of seasonal greens and fresh fruits.

Last May, the world gaped over the ATM-style gold vending machine installed at the Emirates Palace, one of the world's costliest hotels to build (at $3 billion). Called "Gold to Go," the machine dispenses customized coins or small bars up to 10 grams. Now we're getting word that China has followed suit, opening a gold vending machine in a busy shopping district in Beijing. We can't say we're surprised. A recent article in The Independent (UK), titled "Shanghai's Young High Rollers Splurge on Luxury," calls attention to the growing market for luxury goods in China, and millionaires keen to hedge their bets against inflation may cash in on gold. All we can say: look out for pickpockets.
